The Call is a free e-pamphlet designed for those who want to take control of their life and world, via declaring their personal independence and responsibility. It provides a foundation – a scaffold – upon which you can build, revise, reconstruct.
Building on Schumacher’s timeless A Guide for the Perplexed The CALL covers science principles, man and woman, brains and belief, economics and society, government and laws, and your responsibilities and actions. It issues a CALL for involvement – for action – for participation.
Most of us want to be ‘called’ – to have a mission, a purpose, a reason for being. Adolescents and youth struggle with finding their ‘place’, their ‘role’, their calling. The Mormon Church, in my opinion, abuses the natural tendency of adolescents and young adults to search for meaning by handing these youth a simple ‘Call’ – which requires no real thinking or intellectual commitment.
Youth seek a Call – the Church provides it. Simple, effective (for the Church), and a great disservice to the mental and intellectual growth and wellbeing of those who heed that Call before considering other opportunities to serve.
There are many other Calls available to those who want one. The CALL suggests some – and provides the foundation to aid your deliberation and choice.
